Roll the Tape · Bear Essentials AI, LLC
Privacy Policy
Effective October 2, 2026
Roll the Tape writes newspaper-style reports about fantasy football leagues. It is run by Bear Essentials AI, LLC, an Ohio limited liability company ("we"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us, and how to ask us to delete it. Questions: [email protected].
What we collect
- From the person who signs a league up (usually the commissioner): email address, the league's URL or ID, its platform, and what you bought. Payment details go directly to Stripe; we never see or store card numbers.
- League data. To write about a league we read it from its platform: team and manager names as they appear in the league, rosters, lineups, scores, standings, transactions such as waiver claims, and past seasons. For Sleeper leagues this comes from Sleeper's public API. For ESPN leagues it comes from ESPN using the access described next.
- ESPN access cookies (ESPN leagues only). ESPN requires two browser cookies,
espn_s2andSWID, to read a private league. Our sign-up page's "Connect ESPN" button copies only those two cookies, never your password. We use them only to read your league's data. They are stored as an encrypted secret with GitHub, which runs our publishing job, and in a private file on our operator's computer. They are never published, and are deleted when your service ends or when you ask. - NFL play-by-play data from the public nflverse project, used to explain in-game injuries. It contains no information about you.
- Site analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without tracking you across other sites. Links on league pages may carry a
?ref=tag naming the league, so we can see which leagues send visitors to our site.
How league pages work
Each league gets pages at an unlisted web address (for example rollthetape.football/your-league/). Anyone with the link can read them, so they are as private as the group chat they're shared in. We ask search engines not to index them, and we don't list customer leagues anywhere without permission. The reports name managers and teams the way the league itself does. If a league member wants their name changed or removed from a report, the commissioner or the member can email us and we will fix it.
How we use it
- To build and publish the reports you bought, and to email you when they're ready.
- To answer you, process refunds, and keep records the law requires.
- We do not sell personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Who helps us
These providers process data on our behalf, only to run the service:
- Stripe: payments, receipts and sales tax.
- Cloudflare: website hosting, email forwarding and analytics.
- Anthropic: the AI model (Claude) that writes each report from your league's statistics. League data is sent to it to write the report; under Anthropic's commercial terms, it is not used to train their models.
- GitHub: stores our code, the published pages, and (encrypted) the ESPN access cookies used by our weekly publishing job.
- Our email provider: sends notices such as "your new edition is up."
How long we keep it
League reports stay online as a permanent record for the league unless you ask us to take them down. ESPN cookies are deleted when your service ends. Purchase records are kept as long as tax law requires. Everything else is deleted on request.
Your choices
Email [email protected] to see what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or take a league's pages down. We'll respond within 30 days. If your local law gives you additional rights, we'll honor them.
Children
Roll the Tape is meant for adults and isn't directed at children under 13. If you believe a child's information is in a report, email us and we'll remove it.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and for significant changes we'll email current customers.
Roll the Tape is not affiliated with the NFL, ESPN, or Sleeper.
